Pinpoint Test H: The Media Hub Is Inoperative Or Has Poor Sound or Image Quality

The media hub contains an internal 3 port Universal Serial Bus (USB) hub connected to 2 external USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports for customer devices and 1 internal USB (Universal Serial Bus) port that interfaces with the SD card reader. One USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable connects the media hub to the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module).

The media hub also contains an internal composite audio/video translator connected to the external RCA jacks, which output video and audio signals to the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) via a shielded audio and video harness. The media hub requires an external power and ground circuit to operate. Loss of power or ground disables all media hub functionality.

- DTC B1252:11 (USB (Universal Serial Bus) Port: Circuit Short to Ground)- sets when the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) detects an over-current condition in the USB (Universal Serial Bus) circuit. This can be caused by a fault in the USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable and port, or by the customer USB (Universal Serial Bus) device.

- DTC B1215:00 (External Memory Card: No Sub Type Information)- set by the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) when it detects a device conflict through the media hub, a fault in the USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable or media hub, or there is no SD card present when the vehicle is equipped with navigation.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Media hub

- Device conflict

- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)

PINPOINT TEST H : THE MEDIA HUB IS INOPERATIVE OR HAS POOR SOUND OR IMAGE QUALITY

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

NOTE: Before carrying out this pinpoint test, make sure the MP3 device is operating correctly.

H1 RESET THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)

NOTE: Resetting the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) resets certain customer preference items.

- Remove any USB (Universal Serial Bus) devices connected in the media hub.

- Remove the Body Control Module (BCM) fuse 29 (20A).

- Wait 5 minutes.

- Reinstall the fuse and wait 2 minutes for the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) to re-initialize.

- Test the system for normal operation.

Does the system operate correctly?

Yes
The cause of the fault was due to a device conflict. The system is operating correctly at this time.

GO to H8.

H5 CHECK THE MEDIA HUB VOLTAGE SUPPLY

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: Media Hub C3618.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between the media hub C3618-1, circuit LME89 (YE/BU), harness side and the media hub C3618-10, circuit RME89 (WH/BU), harness side.

Is the voltage greater than 5 volts?

Yes
GO to H6.

No
GO to H7.

H6 ISOLATE THE MEDIA HUB

- Install a new media hub. Refer to Universal Serial Bus (USB) Cable and Port Universal Serial Bus (USB) Cable and Port.

- Connect: Multi-Media Interface Tester.Using the Multi-Media Interface Tester, attempt to play an audio file using the Universal Serial Bus (USB) port.

Is the audio output OK for the USB (Universal Serial Bus) port?

Yes
The concern was caused by an inoperative media hub. The system is operating correctly at this time.

No
INSTALL a new USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable. REFER to Universal Serial Bus (USB) Cable and Port Universal Serial Bus (USB) Cable and Port.

H7 CHECK THE MEDIA HUB VOLTAGE SUPPLY AND GROUND CIRCUITS FOR CONTINUITY AND SHORTS TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) C2383.

- Measure the resistance between the media hub, harness side and the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module), harness side; and between the media hub, harness side and ground as follows:

Positive Meter Lead Negative Meter Lead Circuit C3618-1 C2383-8 LME89 (YE/BU) C3618-10 C2383-38 RME89 (WH/BU) C3618-1 Ground LME89 (YE/BU)

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the media hub and the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) and greater than 10,000 ohms between the media hub and ground?
