Pinpoint Test AB: DTC U016A:00

Information and Entertainment System

Pinpoint Test AB: DTC U016A:00

- DTC U016A:00 (Lost Communication With Global Positioning System Module: No Sub Type Information)- set by the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) when it is missing network messages from the Global Positioning System Module (GPSM) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) for greater than 5 seconds with the ignition in the RUN position.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern

- GPSM (Global Positioning System Module)

- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)

PINPOINT TEST AB : DTC U016A:00

AB1 CHECK THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) DTCs

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) may not have been carried out.

- Ignition ON.

- Clear the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait at least 10 seconds.

- Retrieve the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) self-test.

Is DTC U016A:00 still present?

Yes
GO to AB2.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to an intermittent fault in the network wiring.

AB2 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Operate the audio system in various modes (radio tuner, SYNC(R), etc.).

- Observe the compass display for normal operation.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AB3.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to an intermittent fault in the network wiring. CHECK the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network) wiring between the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) and the GPSM (Global Positioning System Module) for an intermittent fault.

AB3 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Carry out the network test using the scan tool.

Does the GPSM (Global Positioning System Module) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to AB4.

No
REFER to The GPSM (Global Positioning System Module) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool in Information Bus Pinpoint Test L: The Global Positioning System Module (GPSM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.

AB4 CHECK FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE OUT-OF-RANGE DTCs

- Carry out the self-test for the following modules:
- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)

- GPSM (Global Positioning System Module)

Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded in either module?

Yes
REFER to DTC Charts Accessories and Optional Equipment.

No
INSTALL a new GPSM (Global Positioning System Module). REFER to Global Positioning System Module (GPSM) Service and Repair. CLEAR the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) DTCs. REPEAT the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) self-test.

If DTC U016A:00 is still present, INSTALL a new APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module). REFER to Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM). TEST the system for normal operation.
