The switch for the rear window defogger (EBL) system (2) is integrated into the A/C-heater control (1) located in the center of the instrument panel. When the rear window defogger switch is activated, the timing circuit integral to the body control module (BCM) operates the rear window defogger (EBL) relay. An amber indicator (3) in the rear window defogger switch will illuminate to indicate when the EBL system is turned on.

When the EBL relay is activated, current is directed to the rear window defogger grid lines and when equipped, to the heated outside rear view mirrors. The grid lines heat the rear windows and mirror glass to help clear the surfaces of fog or frost.
