1. Remove shift housing attaching bolts, position reverse shift fork to partially engage the reverse idler gear, then lift off housing.
2. Remove flange nut (221), Fig. 1.
3. Remove rear bearing retainer (223) attaching bolts, then bearing retainer and gasket.
4. Remove speedometer gear (219).
5. Remove front bearing retainer (202) attaching bolts, then bearing retainer and gasket.
6. Remove countergear front cover (238) attaching bolts, then front cover and gasket.
7. Using bearing remover tool No. J-28509-A or equivalent, remove countergear front bearing (237).
8. Remove snap rings (225 and 226).
9. Using bearing remover tool No. J-22832-01 and No. J-8433 or equivalent, remove countergear rear bearing (228). Ensure bearing remover tool No. J-22832-01 is fully seated in groove.
10. Remove bearing to case large snap ring (203), then rotate gear so that cutout portion is facing down to clear countershaft, Fig. 2.
11. Remove drive gear from case.
12. Remove 4th speed blocker ring (204), then bearing snap ring (218).
13. Using bearing remover tool No. J-22832-01 and No. J-8433 or equivalents, remove mainshaft rear bearing (224), then 1st speed thrust washer.
14. Remove mainshaft assembly (250) from case.
15. Remove countershaft assembly (227) from case, then idler gear (230) and shaft.
