Removal and Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove air cleaner assembly from engine.

3. Disconnect TV/detent cable from its upper end.

4. Remove transfer case shift lever knob and boot assembly.

5. Raise and support vehicle.

6. Remove drive shafts.

7. Disconnect speedometer cable from transmission.

8. Disconnect shift linkage assembly from transmission.

9. Mark then disconnect all electrical connectors from transmission.

10. Disconnect shift linkage assembly from transfer case.

11. Remove transmission support strut rods and flywheel cover.

12. Mark flywheel and torque converter bolts, then remove torque converter to flywheel attaching bolts.

13. Disconnect transmission fluid cooler lines from transmission.

14. Place a suitable jack under transmission and transfer case assembly.

15. Remove transfer case to frame bracket bolts. Remove mount bolts and crossmember assembly.

16. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.

17. Remove transmission and transfer case assembly from vehicle.

18. Reverse procedure to install. Before installing the flex plate to converter attaching bolts, ensure weld nuts on the converter are flush with flex plate (flywheel) and the converter rotates freely by hand in this position.
