Engine Glow Plug - Identification

Number: 84-18

Section: 6D (VIy)

Date: Nov., 1983
Subject: ENGINE GLOW PLUG DIFFERENCE ON
6.2L DIESEL ENGINES

Model and Year: 1984 MILITARY AND NON-MILITARY
TRUCKS

ENGINE GLOW PLUG:

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

The recent sales of the 6.2L diesel engine equipped vehicles to the military may cause dealers to come into contact with these trucks for service work.

It should be noted that the glow plugs from the "D" (military) truck are A/C 13G glow plugs. They will fit into any 6.2L head but have a thinner electrical connection than the normal 6.2L glow plug, A/C 9G. Therefore, they could be installed in a non-military 6.2L diesel, but they would not heat up correctly and a hard start condition would occur. The wider electrical tab on the A/C 9G will not allow them to be hooked up in a military unit.

NOTICE: The military unit ("D" truck) has a 24 volt electrical system; therefore, it requires the different glow plug.
