Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Catalytic Converter Connections:






REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle and the exhaust system assembly with safety stands.
2. Oxygen sensor electrical connection.
3. Three exhaust system hangers supporting the exhaust system, begining with the hanger at the tailpipe.
4. Clamp from the rear of the catalytic converter and support the converter (Y-pipe assembly).
5. Nuts and seals from catalytic converter (Y-pipe assembly).
6. Separate the intermediate exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter and remove the catalytic converter assembly.
^ It will be necessary to rotate the left side of the catalytic converter (Y-pipe assembly) down.
^ Then move the catalytic converter (Y-pipe assembly) toward the front of the vehicle.
^ Lower the catalytic converter (Y-pipe assembly) out of the vehicle.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Catalytic converter assembly.
^ Raise the catalytic converter (Y-pipe assembly) into the vehicle.
^ Then move the catalytic converter (Y-pipe assembly) towards the rear of the vehicle.
^ It will be necessary to rotate the left side of the catalytic converter (Y-pipe assembly) up.
2. Seals and nuts into converter (Y-pipe assembly) and torque the exhaust flange nuts to 20 Nm (15 lbs ft).
3. Clamp from the rear of the catalytic converter and torque to 60 Nm (44 lbs ft).
4. Three exhaust system hangers supporting the exhaust system.
5. Oxygen sensor electrical connection.
6. Remove the support from exhaust system assembly and lower the vehicle from the hoist.
