Starter Motor Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURECAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts.
4. Remove the starter shims (if necessary).
5. Lower the starter motor.
6. Disconnect the starter solenoid field leads.
7. Remove the starter motor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Connect the starter enable relay lead to the S terminal.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 2 N-m (18 lb in).
3. Connect the generator BAT lead and the positive battery cable to the B terminal.
4. Install the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 9 N-m (80 lb in).
5. Install the two starter motor mounting bolts and the shims (if necessary) through the starter to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 43 N-m (32 lb ft).
6. Remove the safety stands.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable in Starting and Charging. Service and Repair
