Ground Strap: Service and Repair




Engine Ground Strap Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the ground strap from the generator.
2. Disconnect the ground strap from the engine.
3. Remove the ground strap.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the ground strap to the original routing.
2. Connect the ground strap to the generator.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Connect the ground strap to the engine.

* Tighten the ground strap to the generator (Gas) nut to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).
* Tighten the ground strap to the engine (Gas) bolt to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).
* Tighten the ground strap to the generator (6.5 L) bolt to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
* Tighten the ground strap to the engine nut to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
* Tighten the ground strap to the generator (7.2 L) bolt to 11 Nm (97 lb in).
* Tighten the ground strap to the engine (7.2 L) bolt to 32 Nm (24 lb ft).

4. Additional ground straps are used for the body. Frame, engine and transmission harnesses connect all ground straps to ensure a good ground path to the battery from all electrical components.
