Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing & Jacket - Assemble

Assembly Procedure
1. Install the steering column housing assembly onto the steering column housing jacket assembly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the 4 TORX head screws to the steering column housing assembly.
Tighten the TORX head screws to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the following parts onto the steering column jacket assembly:
3.1. The steering shaft (1).
3.2. The adapter and bearing assembly (2).
3.3. The steering column seal (3).





4. Install the park lock cable assembly (3).
5. Install 3 flat head 6-lobed socket tapping screws (2).
Tighten the flat head 6-lobed socket tapping screws to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





6. Install the electrical BTSI actuator.
7. Install the gearshift lever and put the column in the neutral position.





8. To adjust the electrical BTSI actuator using the following steps:
8.1. Pull the tab (1) out on the block side (2) of the electrical BTSI actuator.
8.2. Press on the adjuster block (2) to compress the internal adjuster spring to disengage the adjuster teeth. Slide the adjuster block as far away from the solenoid as possible.
8.3. Push the tab (2) in to lock in place.
9. To inspect the electrical BTSI actuator using the following steps:
9.1. Put the gearshift lever in the park position.
9.2. Install the column into the vehicle.
9.3. Release the gearshift lever by pressing the brake pedal.
9.4. Energize the solenoid.
9.5. Readjust if needed.
10. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly. Refer to Turn Signal and Multifunction Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle.
11. Install the lock module assembly. Refer to Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
