Air Injection: Testing and Inspection

1. Start the engine and warm up to normal operating temperature (cooling fan should cycle ON and OFF at least once).
2. Remove the air cleaner cover and filter.
3. With the engine running, listen for a "bubbling" noise from the air suction port at idle. No noise should come from the port.

4. If a "bubbling" noise is heard, disconnect the #5 vacuum hose from the air suction valve and connect it to a vacuum gauge. No vacuum should be available.
a. If there is no vacuum available, replace the air suction valve and re-test.
b. If vacuum is available, check the air suction control solenoid valve (see COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS).
5. Block the rear wheels and set the parking brake. Jack up the front of the car and support with jack stands.
6. Place the shifter in 2nd gear (both automatic and manual transmissions), and accelerate above 12.5 mph. Quickly release the throttle and listen for a "bubbling" noise coming from the air suction port. Noise should be heard.
7. If the "bubbling" noise is not heard, disconnect the #5 vacuum hose from the air suction valve and connect it to a vacuum gauge. When decelerating from a speed greater than 12.5 mph, vacuum should be available.
a. If vacuum is available, replace the air suction valve and re-test.
b. If no vacuum is available, test the air suction control solenoid valve (see COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS).
