Power Sliding Doors - Inoperative DTC 25 Set

99-028

1999-00 Odyssey EX - ALL

Power Sliding Door(s) Do Not Work and DTC 25 Is Stored
(Supersedes 99-028, dated May 30, 2000)

SYMPTOM

The power sliding doors do not operate, and the power sliding door indicator light is on with DTC 25 stored.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Loose or poor ground connections at G551, G552, G581, and G582.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Remove the paint from the body at the ground terminals, then reinstall each ground terminal with a star washer between it and the body.

NOTE:
If any ground bolt is found loose, you MUST enter the ground number(s) in the contention description field of the warranty claim.

Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

DIAGNOSIS

Retrieve the DTC(s). Follow the procedure on page 22-242 of the 1999-00 Odyssey Service Manual.

^ If DTC 25 is stored in either power sliding door control unit, go to the REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If DTC 25 is not stored in either power sliding door control unit, refer to page 22-244 of the 1999-00 Odyssey Service Manual and to Service Bulletin 99-027, Power Sliding Door Problems.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Before starting this procedure, make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and for the navigation system.

1. Write down the radio station presets.

2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Failure to disconnect the negative cable may damage the power sliding door control units.

3. Remove the left and right B-pillar trim pieces. Refer to page 20-56 of the 1999-00 Odyssey Service Manual.





4. Check whether G551 and G581 have star washers between the ground terminal and the body.

^ If they have star washers, go to step 11.

^ If they do not have star washers, go to step 5.

5. At the left B-pillar, locate and remove the ground bolt for G551.

6. Use sandpaper to remove the paint around the ground bolt hole.

*7. Clean the paint out of the ground bolt hole by running a 6 mm x 1.0 tap through the hole.*

8. Put a star washer between the ground terminal and the body. Reinstall the ground bolt, and torque the ground bolt to 9 Nm (7 lb-ft).





9. At the right B-pillar, locate and remove the ground bolt for G581.

10. Repeat steps 6 thru 8 at G581.

11. Reinstall the left and right B-pillar trim pieces.

12. Remove the left and right D-pillar trim pieces. Refer to page 20-57 of the 1999-00 Odyssey Service Manual.





13. At the left D-pillar, locate and remove the ground bolt for G552.

14. Use sandpaper to remove the paint around the ground bolt hole.

*15. Clean the paint out of the ground bolt hole by running a 6 mm x 1.0 tap through the hole.*

16. Put a star washer between the ground terminal and the body. Reinstall the ground bolt, and torque the ground bolt to 9 Nm (7 lb-ft).





17. At the right D-pillar, locate and remove the ground bolt for G582.

18. Repeat steps 14 thru 16 at G582.

19. Reinstall the left and right D-pillar trim pieces. Make sure the rear seat belts retract smoothly.

20. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

21. Reset the clock, enter the anti-theft code(s), and enter the radio station presets.

22. Clear the DTCs from the power sliding door control units. Refer to page 22-243 of the 1999-00 Odyssey Service Manual.

23. Close the power sliding door.

24. Turn the power sliding door main switch OFF.

25. Slowly open the power sliding door manually. Open the door all the way.

26. Turn the power sliding door main switch ON.

27. Press and hold the power sliding door switch to close the door you just opened manually. Continue to hold the switch until the door is closed.

28. Do steps 23 thru 27 on the other sliding door.

29. Open and close both sliding doors using the dash switches, the inner and outer door handles, and the key less entry remote transmitters.
