EGR Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

To test the EGR Solenoid Valve, located on the engine, proceed as follows.

EGR Vacuum Control Test:

1. Mark and disconnect the vacuum hose (green stripe) from the solenoid valve.
2. Disconnect the electrical harness connector.
3. Connect a manual vacuum pump to the nipple that the green striped hose was removed from.

Testing The EGR Control Solenoid Valve, Powered/Un-powered:

4. Attempt to apply a vacuum while voltage is applied to the solenoid valve, verify that the valve does hold vacuum.
5. Remove power from the solenoid valve and verify that the solenoid valve does not hold vacuum.

Resistance Testing The EGR Control Solenoid Valve:

6. Measure the resistance between the two terminals of the solenoid valve, and verify that the resistance is between 36 and 44 ohms at 20 degrees C (68 degrees F).
7. If any of the tests in steps 4 through 6 failed, replace the EGR control solenoid valve.
