Variable Valve Timing Solenoid: Description and Operation

Valve Timing Control Solenoid Valve:

PURPOSE
The Valve Timing Control (VTC) Solenoid Valves regulate oil pressure to the intake camshaft pullies.



OPERATION
The two VTC solenoids act as controlled oil pressure drains for the intake camshaft pullies. The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the electrical circuit of the VTC Solenoids.

Valve Timing Control Solenoid Valve Operation:

When energized; the VTC Solenoids close the oil pressure drain coming from the intake camshaft pullies. This results in advanced intake valve timing via the hydraulically adjustable intake camshaft pullies.
