VEHICLES AFFECTED

1986 Impulse models with G200Z engine after VIN G0908372 (production date 06/86).

SERVICE INFORMATION

A combination of several specific driving conditions may cause the vehicle to stall or engine speed to drop to 400 rpm, with no throttle response.

All of the following circumstances must exist at the same time for this condition to occur:

a. Vehicle must be traveling less than 12 mph (20 kph).

b. Coolant temperature must be over 167~F (75~C).

c. Engine speed must be between idle and 2,000 rpm.

d. Accelerator pedal is released (throttle valve switch on), then depressed (throttle valve switch off).
A new I-TEC control unit is available for vehicles which encounter this condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Replace the I-TEC control unit as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.

2. Inspect the I-TEC system as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual. Make sure that all components are properly installed and adjusted.
