Radiator Cooling Fan Temperature Sensor / Switch: Service and Repair

Radiator Coolant Temperature Sensor (RCT) Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Raise the cab.
3. Drain the cooling system below the level of the radiator coolant temperature (RCT) sensor.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the RCT sensor (1).
5. Remove the RCT sensor from the lower radiator hose center metal tubing. Use an adjustable wrench as a backup on the metal tubing if the metal tubing is twisting when removing the sensor.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Replacement components must be the correct part number for the application. Components requiring the use of the thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are identified in the service procedure. Some replacement components may come with these coatings already applied. Do not use these coatings on components unless specified. These coatings can affect the final torque, which may affect the operation of the component. Use the correct torque specification when installing components in order to avoid damage.

1. Coat the RCT sensor threads with sealer GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480), or equivalent.

NOTICE: Fastener Notice

2. Install the RCT sensor.

Tighten
Tighten the RCT sensor to 14 N.m (10 lb ft)

3. Connect the RCT sensor electrical connector (1).
4. Refill the engine coolant and bleed the cooling system as necessary.
