Variable Valve Timing Actuator Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION

1. REMOVE V-BANK COVER
2. VVT Sensor (Bank 2):
REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE

3. VVT Sensor (Bank 1):
DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE PROTECTOR FROM UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD AND BEARING CAP

a. Remove the No. 3 V-bank cover bracket.
b. Disconnect the EVAP hose from VSV for EVAP.
c. Remove the VSV for EVAP from upper intake manifold.
d. Remove the No. 2 V-bank cover bracket from upper intake manifold.
e. Disconnect the PCV hose from upper intake manifold.
f. Remove the 4 bolts, and disconnect the engine wire protector from the upper intake manifold and camshaft bearing cap.

4. INSPECT VVT SENSOR RESISTANCE

NOTE: "Cold" and "Hot" in these sentences express the temperature of the sensors themselves. "Cold" is from -10 °C (14 °F) to 50 °C (122 °F) and "Hot" is from 50 °C (122 °F) to 100 °C (212 °F).




a. Disconnect the VVT sensor connectors.
b. Using a ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals.




If the resistance is not as specified, replace the sensor.

c. Reconnect the VVT sensor connectors.

5. VVT Sensor (Bank 1):
REINSTALL ENGINE WIRE PROTECTOR TO UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD AND BEARING CAP

6. VVT Sensor (Bank 2):
REINSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE

7. REINSTALL V-BANK COVER
