Axle Nut



FRONT AXLE ADJUSTING NUT

ADJUSTING PRELOAD






1. Install the adjusting nut and tighten it using SST.
SST 09607-60020

Torque: 59 Nm (600 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.)

2. Turn the axle hub several times to settle down the bearing.

3. losing SST, retighten the adjusting nut to then loosen it until it can rotate by hand.

Torque: 59 Nm (600 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.)

4. Using SST, retighten the adjusting nut.

Torque: 4.3 - 6.5 Nm (44 - 66 kgf-cm, 38 - 57 inch lbs.)

HINT: Check that there is no looseness on the bearing.






5. Using a spring tension gauge, measure the preload.

Preload (at starting): 42 - 67 N (4.3 - 6.8 kgf, 9.5 - 15.0 lbs.)

INSTALLING LOCK WASHER AND LOCK NUT

1. Install a new lock washer and the lock nut.






2. Using SST, torque the lock nut.
SST 09607-60020

Torque: 64 Nm (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.)

3. Check that the axle hub rotates smoothly and there is no looseness on the bearing.






4. Using a spring tension gauge, check the preload.

Preload (at starting): 42 - 67 N (4.3 - 6.8 kgf, 9.5 - 15.0 lbs.)

HINT: Make sure to check preload in the direction of rotation.

If the preload is not within the specification, adjust it again with the adjusting nut.

5. Secure the lock nut by bending one of the lock washer teeth inward and the other lock washer teeth outward.
