Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Connecting Rod Bolt/Nut

CAUTION: Do not scratch the cylinder walls or crankshaft journals with the connecting rod.

Note: Make sure the crankshaft is Top Dead Center (TDC).

Using the special tools, install the connecting rods, position the lower rod bearing cap and loosely install the bolts.

Note: The rod bearing cap bolts are torque-to-yield. Install new bolts each time repaired.

Tighten the bolts in three stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 45 Nm. (30 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 3: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.

Measure the connecting rod clearance.
