Removal

Removal








Special Tool(s)

1. Remove the hood.
2. Recover the air conditioning system.
3. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet tube.
4. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
5. Remove the wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft.





6. Remove the RH cowl extension.
1. Remove the pin-type retainers.
2. Remove the bolts.
3. Remove the nuts.
4. Remove the extension.





7. Remove the LH cowl extension.
1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Remove the bolts.
3. Remove the extension.
8. Drain the engine cooling system.
9. Drain the engine oil. Install the drain plug when finished.
10. Lower the vehicle.





11. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the oil filter adapter.





12. NOTE: For oil cooler-equipped vehicles only.

Disconnect the two coolant hoses, and remove the oil cooler and secure it to the front of the engine.
13. Remove the battery.





14. Disconnect the hoses from the transmission fluid cooler.





15. Disconnect the hoses from the power steering fluid cooler.
16. Remove the radiator upper sight shield.





17. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the water hose connection. Secure the hose to the radiator assembly.





18. Disconnect the electrical connection from the fan motor and position out of the way.





19. Remove the nuts and separate the lines from the A/C condenser core.





20. Remove the bolts and the radiator support brackets.





21. Remove the radiator assembly.





22. Disconnect the engine bulkhead connectors.





23. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable:
^ Remove the bolts.
^ Disconnect the cables.





24. Remove the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable from the clips and position out of the way.





25. Disconnect the main vacuum supply hose.





26. Remove the bolt.





27. Remove the bolts.
28. Raise the vehicle.





29. Remove the starter motor:
^ Remove the starter motor solenoid cover.
^ Disconnect the electrical connections.
^ Remove the bolts.
^ Remove the starter motor.





30. Support the exhaust and remove the four nuts.





31. Remove the bolts and the inspection cover.





32. Remove the torque converter nut access plug.
^ Remove the four nuts.





33. Remove the bolt.





34. Remove the nut and the ground wire.





35. Remove the four bolts and one stud.
36. Lower the vehicle.





37. Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve.
^ Disconnect the three hoses.
^ Disconnect the connector.
^ Remove the nut and the evaporative emission canister purge valve.





38. Disconnect the heater water hoses.





39. Remove the nut and disconnect the electrical connectors on the RH inner fender.





40. Remove the bolt and the body ground.





41. Disconnect the A/C pressure cutoff switch electrical connector.
42. Remove the A/C cycling switch.





43. Remove the nut.





44. Disconnect the air conditioning lines.





45. Disconnect the fuel lines.





46. Disconnect and unplug the RH heated oxygen sensor connector.
47. Disconnect the LH heated oxygen sensor and separate the transmission harness from the rear of the LH cylinder head.





48. Disconnect the generator electrical connectors.





49. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose.





50. NOTE: The RH motor mount has a second bolt accessed from the top.

Remove the bolt.
51. Raise the vehicle.





52. Remove the LH bolts.





53. Remove the RH bolt.
54. Lower the vehicle.





55. Install the Engine Lift Bracket Set.
56. Support the transmission.





57. Remove the engine assembly from the vehicle.





58. Use the (A) Rear Crankshaft Slinger Remover and (B) Slide Hammer to remove the (C) rear oil seal slinger.





59. Use the (A) Rear Crankshaft Seal Remover and the (B) Slide Hammer to remove the (C) rear main seal.





60. Remove the eight bolts and the crankcase rear oil seal retainer.
61. Mount the engine on a suitable engine stand.
