Steering System

Steering System Components
The rear air suspension control module is used to monitor and control the electronic variable orifice (EVO) steering system. The EVO steering system controls the level of power assistance available to the driver based on vehicle speed and rate of change in steering position. Greater power assistance is provided at lower speeds to lessen steering efforts and increase maneuverability. Less power assistance is provided at higher speeds to raise steering efforts for increased directional stability. A signal from the steering wheel rotation sensor to the rear air suspension control module on a panic or aggressive turn will provide additional power assist. If there is any electrical system failure in the EVO system, the steering system will default to full power assist.

NOTE: The Town Car is equipped with a electronic variable orifice (EVO) power steering system and not a variable assist power steering (VAPS) system, however the scan tool will display VAPS II.
