1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle and drain engine oil.
2. Disconnect oil level sensor electrical connector and, on California models, the oil thermo unit electrical connector.
3. Remove oil pan attaching bolts and the pan.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply the 0.16-0.24 in. (4-6 mm) diameter continuous bead of sealer (Part number 0398 77 739) on the mounting surface of the oil pan as shown in Fig. 52. Be sure there are no gaps in the sealer bead.
b. Tighten oil pan attaching bolts little by little, torquing to 8-11 ft.lbs.
