1. DTC P0722 description
The output speed sensor is installed on the right side of the transmission case. The output speed sensor is a Hall element type sensor that generates signals for AC voltage based on the rotation speed of the parking lock gear installed to the rear planetary gear assembly. The parking lock gear generates 12 pulses by 1 rotation. The TCM detects the vehicle speed using the output speed sensor signal. The TCM sets the DTC if there is no output speed sensor input even if there is turbine speed sensor input.
2. Condition for setting DTC P0722
Condition for running the DTC
- The ignition switch is ON.
- The battery voltage is 9.0 to 16.0 V.
- The engine speed is 550 rpm or more.
- The output speed is 410 rpm or more.
- The vehicle is running in the D range and the gear does not shift.

Condition for setting the DTC
- While the turbine speed sensor signal is input, the TCM detects that no output speed sensor signal is input.
3. Action taken when DTC P0722 sets
- The TCM flashes the check trans warning light. Refer to Action taken when DTC sets - Type A.
Refer to "55.Transmission Control 5A.Troubleshooting(AWR6B45) DTC type definitions".
- The TCM calculates the output speed based on the turbine speed and current gear position.
The following applies only when a speedometer signal malfunction is detected at the same time.
- The TCM inhibits shifting to the reverse gear.
- The TCM inhibits the shift timing control.
- The TCM inhibits the lock-up timing control.
- The TCM inhibits the slip lock-up control.
- The TCM inhibits the garage control.
- The TCM inhibits the self-learning control.
- The TCM inhibits the engine torque control.
- The TCM inhibits the skip gear shift control.
- All the solenoids are turned OFF.
- If the DTC is set in the D range, the gear is fixed to 3rd or 5th.
4. Condition for clearing DTC P0722
- Refer to Condition for clearing the MIL, check trans warning light/DTC - Type A or Type B.
Refer to "55.Transmission Control 5A.Troubleshooting(AWR6B45) DTC type definitions".
