1) Connect the scan tool.
2) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 30 seconds or more.
3) Start the engine and operate the vehicle.
4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Is a DTC set?
Yes
=>Go to Shift cable and inhibitor switch inspection.
No
Go to Intermittent conditions of automatic transmission.

1) Inspect whether the shift cable and inhibitor switch are properly adjusted. Is the result normal?

=>Go to Each range display check.
No
Adjust as necessary.
1) Observe each Transmission Range Switch parameter on the scan tool while operating the selector lever. Is there a range on each Transmission Range Switch parameter that does not show ON?
Only OFF is displayed in all ranges.
Only OFF is displayed in the specified range.
=>Go to Check for open circuit in inhibitor switch signal circuit.
1) Inspect the BACK UP(IG1) 7.5A fuse for a blowout. Is the result normal?
Yes
=>Go to Inhibitor switch power supply circuit voltage check.
No
Replace the BACK UP(IG1) 7.5A fuse as necessary. If the fuse blows out again, repair the short to ground in the circuits relating to the BACK UP(IG1) 7.5A fuse.
1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2) Disconnect the inhibitor switch harness connector (E41).
3) Connect a test lamp between the inhibitor switch power supply circuit (pin 2 of E41) and the body ground.

4) Turn ON the ignition switch. Does the test lamp illuminate?
Yes
=>Go to Inhibitor switch harness connector inspection.
No
=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in inhibitor switch power supply circuit.
1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2) Disconnect the inhibitor switch harness connector (E41).
3) Connect a fused jumper wire between the inhibitor switch power supply circuit (pin 2 of E41) and the signal circuit (pin 1, 7, or 9 of E41) that displays OFF.

4) Observe the Transmission Range Switch parameter on the scan tool. Does the Transmission Range Switch parameter show OFF?
Yes
=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in inhibitor switch signal circuit.
No
=>Go to Inhibitor switch harness connector inspection.
1) Inspect the power supply circuit between the BACK UP(IG1) 7.5A fuse and the inhibitor switch (pin 2 of E41) for an open circuit or high resistance. Is the result normal?
