CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI-3.7]

Visual Inspection

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

2.  Remove the following parts for easier access:

1.  Rear HO2S (LH) (PCM connector (2 types)) (See REAR HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7 (PCM CONNECTOR (2 TYPES))].)

2.  HO2S (LH) (PCM connector (3 types)) (See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7 (PCM CONNECTOR (3 TYPES))].)

3.  WU-TWC (LH) bracket (L type) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

4.  WU-TWC (LH) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

3.  Remove the CKP sensor. (See CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

4.  Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CKP sensor.

•  If there is a malfunction, remove any metal shavings that are adhering.

Resistance Inspection

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

2.  Remove the following parts for easier access:

1.  Rear HO2S (LH) (PCM connector (2 types)) (See REAR HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7 (PCM CONNECTOR (2 TYPES))].)

2.  HO2S (LH) (PCM connector (3 types)) (See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7 (PCM CONNECTOR (3 TYPES))].)

3.  WU-TWC (LH) bracket (L type) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

4.  WU-TWC (LH) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

3.  Remove the CKP sensor connector. (See CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

4.  Measure the resistance between CKP sensor terminals A and B.

•  If not within the specification, replace the CKP sensor. (See CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)
