Shift Position Indication

Purpose, function

•  The shift position indication indicates the actual shift position.

•  If the selector lever position is different than the actual shift position of the vehicle, the shift position indication switches to the shift guidance display to urge the driver to shift correctly. Regarding the conditions in which the selector lever position is different than the actual shift position, refer to the Auto P function and shift position restrictions function items.(See AutoP FUNCTION [A71M (E)].) Note

•   In the following cases, the shift position and the selector lever set position differ, however, the shift guide indication is not displayed.

―  The selector lever is shifted from the N position to the D or R position with the brake pedal not depressed.

•  During Auto P operation, if the main power is switched from ON (READY off or on) to OFF or ACC, the shift position indication continues for approx. 40 s.

•  The shift position indication is indicated on the multi-information display.

Operation

•  The PCM sends a shift position indication request signal to the instrument cluster via CAN communication based on the signal from the selector lever and the signal from the parking lock actuator.

•  During shift guidance display, the PCM displays the recommended shift position and a message on the multi-information display.(See MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY [(E)].)

Shift System Warning Indication/Warning Light

Function

•  The shift system warning indication/warning light warns the driver of a malfunction in the shift-by-wire system.

•  When the shift system warning indication/warning light flashes or turns on, a message is displayed on the center display and the multi-information display.(See MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY [(E)].)

Construction

•  The shift system warning light is built into the instrument cluster.

•  The shift system warning indication is displayed on the multi-information display.

•  If a malfunction occurs in the selector lever (ECL) or the parking lock actuator (EPL), the PCM sends a shift system warning indication/warning light request signal to the instrument cluster via CAN communication.

Shift Position Warning Beep

Purpose, function

•  The shift position warning beep notifies the driver that the selector lever position is different than the actual shift position.

Construction/Operation

•  If the PCM detects that the selector lever position is different than the actual shift position for whatever reason, it sends (1) a shift position warning beep request signal to the BCM via CAN communication.

•  When the BCM receives the shift position warning beep request signal, the shift position warning beep is activated from the notification and warning speaker (2).

•  When the selector lever position and the actual shift position match, the shift position warning beep stops.

Selector Lever Not P Reminder Warning Beep

Purpose, function

•  The selector lever not P reminder warning beep notifies the driver that the selector lever is not in the P position to prevent the driver from leaving the vehicle with the selector lever in a position other than the P position.

Construction/operation

•  When the following conditions are met, a selector lever not P reminder warning beep request signal is sent (1) to the BCM via CAN communication.

―  Main power is switched OFF from ON (READY on)

―  Driver’s door is opened with driver’s seat belt unfastened

•  When the BCM receives the selector lever not P reminder warning beep request signal, a selector lever not P reminder warning beep is activated from the notification and warning speaker (2).

•  When the selector lever position and the actual shift position match, the selector lever not P reminder warning beep stops.
