FRONT SEAT BACK FRAME REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)]

Warning

•  Handling a seat equipped with a side air bag improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions in the Workshop Manual before handling a front seat equipped with a side air bag. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)].) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)].)

•  If the sliding mechanisms on both sides are not locked after assembling the front seat, the front seat may operate accidentally while the vehicle is driven, which could result in serious injury. After assembling the front seat, try moving it back and forth to verify that the sliding mechanisms on both sides are locked. (With manual seat)

Caution

•  When removing the front seat, remove it with its seat back locked.

•  After the front seat has been removed, if the slider lever is operated and the front seat is reinstalled with the left/right slide positions deviated, the adjuster unit could be damaged. After removing a front seat, do not operate the slider lever. (With manual seat)

•  After installing a front seat, slide the seat forward and back and verify that there are no problems with the adjustment mechanism.

•  When performing the procedure with a front seat removed from the vehicle, perform the procedure on a clean cloth so as not to damage or soil the seat.

1.  Remove the front seat installation bolts. (With power seat) (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

2.  Switch the main power OFF.

3.  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

4.  Remove the following parts.

(1)  Head restraints

(2)  Front seat under cover (With power seat) (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

(3)  Front seat (See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

(4)  Walk in switch outer bezel (With power seat) (See WALK IN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(5)  Front seat side cover (See FRONT SEAT SIDE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

(6)  Front seat back trim (See FRONT SEAT BACK TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

(7)  Side air bag module for front passenger (See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE FOR FRONT PASSENGER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)].)

(8)  Far side air bag module (See FAR SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)].)

5.  Remove the bolts.

6.  Remove the front seat back frame.

7.  Install in the reverse order of removal.
