FAN CONTROL MODULE INSPECTION

id301200001600

Warning
<<High voltage>>
•  Always observe the following thoroughly to ensure safety when inspecting or removing/installing parts in the motor compartment. Otherwise, the high voltage circuit may operate on the vehicle regardless of whether or not the main power is switched OFF or ON (READY off or on). If this occurs, it could cause electrical shock and result in serious injury or, in the worst case, death.
―  Do not select high voltage battery cooling on center display after EV system stops
―  Do not open/close doors frequently with main power switched OFF
―  Do not perform normal charging or quick charging
―  Switch to connected vehicle maintenance mode (MyMazda App connected vehicle)
―  Cancel climate control timer
―  Operate center display and turn off battery heater operation
Warning
•  The EV system is hot immediately after driving and charging, and can cause severe burns. Turn off the EV system and wait until it is cool before performing the servicing.
•  If the cooling system cap is removed while the EV system is hot, hot coolant may be ejected, causing severe burns or injury. Perform the removal of the cooling system cap when the EV system is cool.
•  When removing the cooling system cap, cover the cooling system cap with a clean cloth and remove it slowly.
•  The cooling fan may suddenly start operating regardless of the main power switch position. Keep hands and tools away from the cooling fan even if the cooling fan is not operating to prevent injury, or damage to the cooling fan. When servicing the cooling fan or parts near the cooling fan, ensure the following.
―  Do not perform normal charging or quick charging
―  Do not select high voltage battery cooling on center display after EV system stops
―  Do not open/close doors frequently with main power switched OFF
―  Switch to connected vehicle maintenance mode (MyMazda App connected vehicle)
―  Cancel climate control timer
―  Operate center display and turn off battery heater operation
Note
•  The fan control module cannot be removed as a single unit. To replace the fan control module, replace the cooling fan component.

1.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

2.  Switch the main power ON (READY on).

3.  Display the PCM PIDs for the coolant temperature ([E_WATER_TEMP]) and cooling fan ([FAN]) using the M-MDS.

(See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION.) (See PID/DATA MONITOR TABLE [PCM (e-SKYACTIV (E))])

4.  Using the PCM simulation function, gradually increase the [FAN] value from 0% to 90% and visually verify that the cooling fan operation speed changes.

(See SIMULATION INSPECTION.) (See ACTIVE COMMAND MODES TABLE [PCM (e-SKYACTIV)])

Note
•  To start the cooling fan from the stopped condition, approx. 9 s. are needed for start-up preparations before starting the cooling fan.

5.  Using the M-MDS, verify that the cooling fan operates normally while measuring the coolant temperature under the following conditions.

Coolant temperature (°C {°F})

Cooling fan operation

Less than 62 {144}
0%
Less than 62 — 65 {144 — 149}
15 — 90%
More than 65 {149}
90%

6.  If normal operation cannot be verified in procedures 4 and 5, inspect the input signals of the following part. Replace the cooling fan component if the following part is normal.

(See COOLING FAN MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

•  Coolant temperature sensor (See COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR INSPECTION.)
