Outline
• The following have been adopted to the SKYACTIV-G 1.5 and SKYACTIV-G 2.0 to reduce sliding resistance *1.
-
― Rocker arm (built in needle roller bearing)
― Reducing the valve spring load
― Narrowing down the crankshaft journal
― Optimizing the piston skirt shape
― Low-tension piston ring
― Lowered tensioning of the drive belt
• HLA has been adopted to achieve a maintenance-free design for valve clearance.
• A piston cavity has been adopted to reduce cooling loss.
• A variable valve timing mechanism has been adopted on both the intake side and the exhaust side to reduce pumping loss*2.
• The rigidity and shape of the related parts have been optimized to stabilize the timing chain behavior and reduce sliding resistance.
• A simple shaped aluminum-alloy cylinder head cover has been adopted.
*1 :Resistance (friction force) which occurs when two object slide against each other. The larger the sliding resistance, the greater the energy loss.
*2 :Energy loss which occurs from each type of resistance corresponding to intake and exhaust is called pumping loss.
