Thrust Needle Bearing Inspection

1.  Inspect the two thrust needle bearings used for the secondary gear and output gear. (See THRUST NEEDLE BEARING INSPECTION.)

Note

•  Thrust needle bearing (converter housing side) size: Outer diameter approx. 39.4 mm {1.55 in}

•  Thrust needle bearing (transaxle case side) size: Outer diameter approx. 67 mm {2.6 in}

•  If there is a malfunction, replace the thrust needle bearing with a new one.

Roller Bearing Inspection

1.  Place the converter housing with the transaxle case side pointing upward on a workbench.

2.  Assemble the thrust needle bearing to the converter housing.

•  Thrust needle bearing size: Outer diameter approx. 39.4 mm {1.55 in}

3.  Assemble the secondary gear and output gear to the converter housing.

4.  Rotate the secondary gear and output gear and verify that there is no malfunction in the roller bearing (rotation sticking).

•  If there is a malfunction in the roller bearing, replace the roller bearing using the following procedure.

(1)  Measure opening width A of the snap ring shown in the figure and verify the type of snap ring.

Snap ring type

Dimension A is 19.4—20.6 mm: Type A

Dimension A is 16.4—17.6 mm: Type B

•  If the snap ring is type A, replace the converter housing and roller bearing with new ones because the roller bearing cannot be replaced as a single unit.

•  If the snap ring is type B, replace the roller bearing.

5.  Remove the secondary gear and output gear.

6.  Remove the thrust needle bearing.

Radial Needle Bearing Inspection

1.  Place the transaxle with the converter housing side pointing upward on the workbench.

2.  Assemble the thrust needle bearing to the transaxle case.

•  Thrust needle bearing size: Outer diameter approx. 67 mm {2.6 in}

3.  Assemble the secondary gear and output gear to the transaxle case.

4.  Rotate the secondary gear and output gear and verify if there is no malfunction in the radial needle bearing (rotation sticking).

•  If there is a malfunction with the radial needle bearing, replace the transaxle case and radial needle bearing with new ones because the radial needle bearing cannot be removed.

5.  Remove the secondary gear and output gear.

6.  Remove the thrust needle bearing.
