DTC P1384

Oil Control Valve (OCV) circuit malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION

• If any of the following conditions are met during the KOER self-test.
- The PCM cannot control the actual valve timing at the target valve timing.
- The PCM cannot hold the valve timing.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Oil control valve (OCV) malfunction
• Variable valve timing control actuator malfunction
• CMP sensor malfunction
• CMP sensor improper operation
• Lack off CMP sensor pulse wheel protrusion (on intake-side camshaft)
• Valve timing improper adjustment

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY RELATED SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
• Check for related service information availability.
• Is any related Service Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to available Service Information.
• If vehicle is not repaired, then go to Step 9.
No
Go to next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED PENDING OR STORED DTCS
• Turn the ignition switch off, then to the ON position (Engine off).
• Verify pending code or stored DTCs using WDS or equivalent.
• Does DTC P0011 or P0012 present?
Yes
Perform applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to next step.
3
INSPECT VARIABLE VALVE TIMING CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATION
• Perform Variable Valve Timing Control System Inspection.
• Does variable valve timing control system work properly?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Repair or replace malfunctioning part according to inspection result, then go to Step 9.
4
INSPECT CMP SENSOR INSTALLATION CONDITION
• Inspect the CMP sensor for followings;
- CMP sensor installation condition
- Foreign materials on CMP sensor
- CMP sensor pulse wheel condition (lack-off protrusion)
• Is CMP sensor normal?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Repair or replace malfunctioning part, then go to Step 9.
5
INSPECT OCV (OIL CONTROL VALVE)
• Inspect the OCV.
• Is OCV normal?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Replace the OCV, then go to Step 9.
6
INSPECT VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR
• Inspect the variable valve timing actuator.
• Is the variable valve timing actuator normal?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Replace the variable valve timing actuator, then go to Step 9.
7
INSPECT HYDRAULIC PASSAGE FOR VALIABLE VALVE CONTROL SYSTEM
• Inspect following hydraulic passages for clogging and/or leakage.
- Oil pressure switch - OCV
- OCV - camshaft
- Camshaft internal passage
• Is there any clogging and/or leakage?
Yes
Repair or replace malfunctioning part, then go to Step 9.
No
Go to next step.
8
INSPECT VALVE TIMING
• Inspect valve timing. (Verify that the timing mark is within the specification. (See Timing Chain Installation Note.)
• Is valve timing normal?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Adjust valve timing properly.
9
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P1384 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using WDS or equivalent.
• Perform KOER self-test.
• Is same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to next step.
No
Go to next step.
10
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform "AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
