PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning
•  Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)
Note
•  Do not reuse the existing wiring harness of a passenger-side air bag module which has deployed. Replace the air bag module and install a new air bag mid-wiring harness. (See AIR BAG MID-WIRING HARNESS INSTALLATION.)
•  When installing the mid-wiring harness, install it along the vehicle wiring harness using bands or tape.

1.  Switch the ignition to off.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

3.  Remove the following parts:

(1)  Glove compartment (See GLOVE COMPARTMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(2)  Glove compartment cover (R.H.D.) (See GLOVE COMPARTMENT COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(3)  Glove compartment damper (R.H.D.) (See DASHBOARD DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY.)
(4)  Keyless receiver (See KEYLESS RECEIVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [ADVANCED KEYLESS AND START SYSTEM].) (See KEYLESS RECEIVER INSPECTION [KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM].)

4.  Remove the screws and bolt.

5.  Remove the glove compartment striker.

6.  Remove the clips for securing the dashboard wiring harness from the air bag module.

7.  Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.

8.  Disconnect the air bag module connector.

9.  Remove the bolt.

10.  Remove the screws.

11.  Set the dashboard wiring harness aside.

12.  Lift the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (1) as shown in the figure.

13.  Pull the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (2) and detach the hook (front) from the instrument panel.

14.  Rotate the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (3).

15.  Press the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (4) and rotate it in the direction of arrow (5).

16.  Pull the passenger-side air bag module downward (6) and remove it.

17.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

18.  Switch the ignition to ON.

19.  Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and goes out.

•  If the air bag system warning light does not operate, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART.)
