Advanced keyless start function inoperative

Possible cause
•  Transmitter (advanced key) malfunction
•  Keyless control module malfunction
•  Keyless receiver malfunction
•  Keyless antenna malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

Note
•  Even if the advanced key is inside the vehicle, the advanced start function may not operate if the advanced key is in a poor signal reception location such as the door pocket.

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
•  Inspect for any advanced keyless and start system-related DTCs.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Perform the corresponding DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
2
•  Verify if the engine can be started using the auxiliary key.
•  Does the engine start?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Perform symptom troubleshooting No.3 (Section 01-03).
3
•  Verify that the keyless indicator light (green) illuminates when the start knob is pressed.
Yes
Go to Step 12.
No
If the keyless indicator light (green) does not illuminate:
•  Go to the next step.
If the keyless indicator light (red) flashes:
•  Go to Step 5.
If the keyless indicator light (red) illuminates:
•  Go to Step 10.
4
•  Bring the transmitter (advanced key) into the cabin.
•  Inspect the signal voltages at the following keyless control module connector (30-pin) when the start knob is pressed.
―  Start knob (push switch): B+ (Terminal 3V)
―  Keyless switch: 1.0 V or less (Terminal 3W)
•  Are the signal voltages normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect the wiring harness between the steering lock unit and the keyless control module.
If the wiring harness is normal:
•  Replace the steering lock unit, then go to the next step.
If the wiring harness is malfunctioning:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness, then go to the next step.
5
•  Perform advanced keyless and start system DTC inspection with all the following condition met.
―  The start knob is not in the LOCK position.
―  The start knob is not pressed.
―  All doors and liftgate are closed.
―  The auxiliary key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder.
•  Perform DTC inspection.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Perform the corresponding DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
6
•  Does the operation indicator light (LED) on the transmitter (advanced key) illuminate when any operation using the transmitter (advanced key) is performed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Perform the procedure for symptom troubleshooting NO.1 [DOOR CANNOT BE LOCKED/UNLOCKED BY TRANSMITTER [ADVANCED KEYLESS AND START SYSTEM].
7
•  Inspect the signal wave pattern for the following keyless control module connector using an oscilloscope.
―  Keyless antenna (Exterior, RF) (Terminal 3O)
―  Keyless antenna (Exterior, LF) (Terminal 3F)
―  Keyless antenna (Exterior, rear) (Terminal 3C)
―  Keyless antenna (Interior, front) (Terminal 3R)
―  Keyless antenna (Interior, rear) (Terminal 3I)
•  Compare the periods in which the signal wave pattern of the transmitter (advanced key) is within and not within the operable range.
•  Is the period of the signal wave pattern shorter when the transmitter (advanced key) is not within the operable range?
Note
•  The period of the signal wave pattern when the transmitter (advanced key) is not within the operable range is approx. one-half compared to when it is not within the operable range.
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect the wiring harness between the applicable keyless antenna and keyless control module for an open or short circuit.
If the wiring harness is normal:
•  Repair the applicable keyless antenna, then go to the next step.
If the wiring harness is malfunctioning:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness, then go to the next step.
8
•  Disconnect the keyless receiver connector and keyless control module connector.
•  Inspect the wiring harness between the following terminals for an open or short circuit.
―  Terminal D (4-pin) — Terminal 1D (6-pin)
―  Terminal C (4-pin) — Terminal 2H (12-pin)
―  Terminal B (4-pin) — GND
•  Is the wiring harness normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect and repair the wiring harness between the keyless control module and the keyless receiver, then go to the next step.
9
•  Measure the signal wave pattern for keyless control module terminal 2H when the start knob is pressed.
•  Does the signal wave pattern change when the start knob is pressed?
Note
•  Perform the oscilloscope setting using 0.5 V/DIV (Y), 100 ms/DIV (X), DC range.
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the keyless receiver, and then go to next step.
10
•  Measure the voltage at keyless control module connector (12-pin) terminal 2L.
•  Is the voltage 5.0 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect the wiring harness between keyless control module connector (12-pin) terminal 2L and steering lock unit (8-pin) terminal G for an open or short circuit.
If the wiring harness is normal:
•  Go to the next step.
If the wiring harness is malfunctioning:
•  Replace the malfunctioning part, then go to the next step.
