Outline

•  Mazda M Hybrid uses the Integrated starter generator (ISG) with excellent power generation efficiency to generate electricity from the kinetic energy generated when the vehicle decelerates. The system uses the electrical power stored in the Mazda M Hybrid battery, which is a large-capacity battery to improve drivability and fuel economy by reducing engine load and providing motor assist. In addition, the Integrated starter generator (ISG) provides quiet engine restarting after the engine is stopped by after the i-stop function (idling stop).

1. Mazda M Hybrid activation

Purpose
•  Verifies that the component parts of the Mazda M Hybrid are normal and activates.

2. Conventional power generation (no regenerative braking)

Purpose
•  Generates electrical power using the Integrated starter generator (ISG), charges the Mazda M Hybrid battery, and supplies power to the vehicle’s electrical devices.

•  The charge state of the Mazda M Hybrid battery is the specified value or less during engine rotation.

3. Regenerative braking

Purpose
•  The kinetic energy that is generated when the vehicle decelerates is converted to electricity to charge the Mazda M Hybrid battery.

•  The accelerator pedal is released and the vehicle speed is a certain speed or more.

6. Engine restarting by ISG

Purpose

7. Mazda M Hybrid shut off

Purpose

Mazda M Hybrid condition verification

•  The PCM sends a signal related to the regenerative braking condition to the connectivity master unit (CMU).
•  The connectivity master unit (CMU) displays information related to the Mazda M Hybrid on the multi-information display or center display by receiving the signal from the PCM. (See MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY.)


Mazda M Hybrid malfunction

•  If a malfunction occurs in a part related to the Mazda M Hybrid, the PCM sends a charge warning light or master warning light illumination request to the instrument cluster and a message display request to the multi-information display or center display according to the malfunction condition.
