OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES

DESCRIPTION
•  Oil pressure warning light illuminates incorrectly.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Engine oil malfunction
―  Engine oil deterioration
―  Fuel penetration into engine oil
•  Oil pressure switch malfunction
•  Engine oil solenoid valve malfunction
•  Oil strainer malfunction
•  Oil pump malfunction
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2D—PCM terminal 2AL
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2B—PCM terminal 2AK
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2D—PCM terminal 2AL
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2B—PCM terminal 2AK
•  Instrument cluster malfunction

INSPECT ENGINE OIL LEVEL
•  Inspect the engine oil level.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Engine oil level is below L:
•  Add genuine motor oil, then go to the next step.
Engine oil level is above F:
•  Replace the engine oil, then go to the next step. (penetration of fuel into engine oil can be considered)
No
Go to Step 3.

VERIFY IF OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES
•  Verify that the oil pressure warning light illuminates.
•  Does the oil pressure warning light illuminate?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Symptom troubleshooting is completed.

VERIFY PCM DTC
•  Retrieve any DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY ENGINE OIL PRESSURE
•  Inspect the engine oil pressure.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
•  Inspect the oil pressure switch.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the oil pressure switch.
No
Go to Step 9.

INSPECT ENGINE OIL SOLENOID VALVE
•  Inspect the engine oil solenoid valve.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the engine oil solenoid valve.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT OIL STRAINER
•  Inspect the oil strainer.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the oil strainer.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT WIRING HARNESS OF PCM CIRCUIT
•  Inspect for short or open circuit between the following terminals:
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2D—PCM terminal 2AL
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2B—PCM terminal 2AK
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.
No
Inspect the instrument cluster.
•  If there is any malfunction:
―  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.
•  If there is no malfunction:
―  Replace the oil pump.

Verify the test results.
•  If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
•  If a malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform the repair or diagnosis.
―  If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.
―  If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM.
