ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Resistance Inspection

Warning
•  When the engine is hot, it can badly burn. Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool before removing the ECT sensor.

1.  Remove the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

3.  Remove the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

4.  Remove the air cleaner assembly. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

5.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

6.  Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.

7.  Remove the ECT sensor. (See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

8.  Place the ECT sensor in water with a thermometer, and heat the water gradually.

9.  Measure the resistance between ECT sensor terminals A and B.

•  If not as specified, replace the ECT sensor. (See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)
