DTC P2458:00

Diesel particulate filter regeneration duration

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM calculates the diesel particulate filter soot accumulation based on the exhaust gas pressure sensor signal. If the PCM calculates that the soot accumulation amount is more than 10 g/L {0.6 Ib/ft3}, the PCM determines the diesel particulate filter regeneration duration.
Diagnostic support note
•  The MIL does not illuminate.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA (Mode 2)/Snapshot data is not available.
•  The DTC is not stored in the PCM memory.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  DTC for MIL illumination is recorded
•  Diesel particulate filter accumulation
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY RELATED SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related Service Information availability.
•  Is any related Service Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available Service Information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC
•  Switch the ignition to off, then to ON (engine off).
•  Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.
•  Is the PENDING CODE/DTC P242F:00 also present?
Yes
Go to the applicable PENDING CODE or DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT EXHAUST GAS PRESSURE SENSOR PIPING
•  Inspect the exhaust pressure piping for restriction and damaged.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results, then go to Step 5.
No
Perform the injection amount correction procedure then perform the manual diesel particulate filter regeneration procedure, then go to the next step.
Note
•  If any of the below DTCs are stored in the PCM, manual regeneration will be blocked by the PCM. Carry out the appropriate DTCs inspection procedure first. Then, perform the manual regeneration procedure again.
P0045:00, P0093:00, P0097:00, P0098:00, P0101:00, P0102:00, P0103:00, P0106:00, P0107:00, P0108:00, P0112:00, P0113:00, P0117:00, P0118:00, P0131:00, P0132:00, P0151:00, P0152:00, P0154:00, P0191:00, P0192:00, P0193:00, P0201:00, P0202:00, P0203:00, P0204:00, P0299:00, P0301:00, P0302:00, P0303:00, P0304:00, P0313:00, P0337:00, P0406:00, P0500:00, P0545:00, P0546:00, P0548:00, P0549:00, P0605:00, P0606:00, P062A:00, P115A:00, P1378:00, P1379:00, P1589:00, P1675:00, P1676:00, P2002:00, P2105:00, P2146:00, P2147:00, P2148:00, P2149:00, P2150:00, P2151:00, P2228:00, P2229:00, P2454:00, P2455:00, P2456:00, P2459:00, P2621:00, P2622:00, P242F:00*, P253F:00.
*:For P242F:00, manual regeneration will only be blocked if an excessive amount of soot is in the diesel particulate filter.
4
INSPECT FOR RESTRICTION OR CLOGGED IN DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER
•  Start the engine and warm up to normal operation temperature.
•  Access the EXHPRESS_DIF PID using the M-MDS at idle.
•  Is the EXHPRESS_DIF PID value less than 4.0 kPa {30 mmHg, 1.2 inHg}?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Perform the manual diesel particulate filter regeneration again.
If the EXHPRESS_DIF PID value less than 4.0 kPa {30 mmHg, 1.2 inHg}:
•  Visually inspect the diesel particulate filter.
―  If there is any malfunction:
•  Replace the catalytic converter.
•  Clear the PCM memory, then go to the next step.
―  If there is no malfunction:
•  Go to the next step.
5
VERIFY DTC TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Start the engine.
•  Perform the DTC Reading Procedure.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
6
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform the “AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE”.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
