DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATES FREQUENTLY

DESCRIPTION
•  Diesel particulate filter indicator light illuminates frequently because the diesel particulate filter system can not dispose of diesel particulates.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Driving conditions are not in diesel particulate filter regeneration condition (i.e., DTC is stored in PCM)
•  Diesel particulate filter is not regenerated by manual regeneration procedure
•  Diesel particulate filter is damaged or deteriorated
•  Erratic signal input to PCM
―  Exhaust gas pressure sensor signal
•  Exhaust system restriction or clogging

Diagnostic Procedure

RESULTS

ACTION

1
Note
•  When the diesel particulate filter indicator light illuminates frequency, it explains using owner’s manual to the customer the cause the running condition even if the procedure is executed.
Retrieve any PCM DTCs using the M-MDS.
Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
DTC is displayed:
•  Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
Communication error message is displayed:
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between main relay terminal E and PCM terminal 2I
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between main relay terminal C and PCM terminals 2C, 2F
•  Main relay is stuck open.
•  Open or poor ground circuit (PCM terminals 2A, 2B, 2D and 2E)
•  Poor connection of vehicle body ground
No
Go to the next step.
2
Inspect the exhaust system for restriction and clogging.
Is there any restriction or clogging detected?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.
No
Go to the next step.
3
Perform the following:
•  Fuel injector injection amount correction
•  Diesel particulate filter regeneration
•  Diesel particulate filter assessment
Go to the next step.
4
Inspect the connection of the hose at the exhaust gas pressure sensor.
Is the hose connected properly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Reconnect the hose properly, then go to the next step.
5
Inspect the engine oil amount.
Is the engine oil amount above the X line on the dipstick?
Yes
Replace the specified engine oil.
Perform the engine oil data reset procedure.
No
Go to the next step.
6
Does the engine oil data reset procedure each engine oil replacements?
Yes
Symptom troubleshooting is completed.
•  Go to the next step.
No
Perform the engine oil data reset procedure.
7
Verify test results.
•  If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
•  If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform the repair or diagnosis.
―  If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.
―  If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, reprogram the PCM if a later calibration is available. Retest.
