Description

• Brake fluid level sensor circuit malfunction

Detection Condition

• Short to ground in brake fluid level sensor circuit with the brake fluid amount below the lower side of the minimum.

Possible Causes

• Brake fluid level sensor connector or terminals malfunction

• Brake fluid level sensor malfunction

• BCM connector or terminals malfunction

• Short to ground in wiring harness between brake fluid level sensor terminal A and BCM terminal 1Q

• BCM malfunction

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION

•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS with the brake fluid amount below the lower side of the minimum.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Is the DTC B1048:11 present?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Switch the ignition to off.

•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

•  Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor connector.

•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).

•  Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR

•  Inspect the brake fluid level sensor.
(See BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR INSPECTION.)

•  Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Replace the brake fluid level sensor, then go to Step 6.

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Disconnect the BCM connector.

•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).

•  Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND

•  Brake fluid level sensor and BCM connectors are disconnected.

•  Inspect for continuity between brake fluid level sensor terminal A (wiring harness-side) and body ground.

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground, then go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED

•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.

•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.

•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS with the brake fluid amount below the lower side of the minimum.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Is the DTC B1048:11 present?

Yes

Repeat the inspection from Step 1.

•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the BCM.
(See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT

•  Are any DTCs present?

Yes

Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE [BCM].)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

2	INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR CONNECTOR CONDITION • Switch the ignition to off. • Disconnect the negative battery cable. • Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor connector. • Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection). • Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR • Inspect the brake fluid level sensor. (See BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR INSPECTION.) • Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Replace the brake fluid level sensor, then go to Step 6. (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D.].) (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].)
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION • Disconnect the BCM connector. • Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection). • Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
4		No	Go to the next step.
5	INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND • Brake fluid level sensor and BCM connectors are disconnected. • Inspect for continuity between brake fluid level sensor terminal A (wiring harness-side) and body ground. • Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground, then go to the next step.
5		No	Go to the next step.
6	VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED • Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors. • Reconnect the negative battery cable. • Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
