Description

• Windshield washer switch circuit malfunction

Detection Condition

• Short to ground in windshield washer switch circuit with the windshield washer switch off.

Possible Causes

• Wiper and washer switch connector or terminals malfunction

• Windshield washer switch malfunction

• BCM connector or terminals malfunction

• Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:

― Wiper and washer switch terminal J—BCM terminal 3G (Vehicles with wiper and washer switch on right side)

― Wiper and washer switch terminal F—BCM terminal 3G (Vehicles with wiper and washer switch on left side)

• BCM malfunction

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION

•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Is the DTC B1051:11 present?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

INSPECT WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Switch the ignition to off.

•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

•  Disconnect the wiper and washer switch connector.

•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).

•  Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT WINDSHIELD WASHER SWITCH

•  Inspect the windshield washer switch.
(See WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH INSPECTION.)

•  Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Replace the wiper and washer switch, then go to Step 6.

(See WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION

•  Disconnect the BCM connector.

•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).

•  Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT WINDSHIELD WASHER SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND

•  Wiper and washer switch and BCM connectors are disconnected.

•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminal (wiring harness-side) and body ground:

―  Wiper and washer switch terminal J (Vehicles with wiper and washer switch on right side)

―  Wiper and washer switch terminal F (Vehicles with wiper and washer switch on left side)

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground, then go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED

•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.

•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.

•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
(See CLEARING DTC [BCM].)

•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
(See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].)

•  Is the DTC B1051:11 present?

Yes

Repeat the inspection from Step 1.

•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the BCM.
(See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT

•  Are any DTCs present?

Yes

Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE [BCM].)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

2	INSPECT WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION • Switch the ignition to off. • Disconnect the negative battery cable. • Disconnect the wiper and washer switch connector. • Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection). • Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	INSPECT WINDSHIELD WASHER SWITCH • Inspect the windshield washer switch. (See WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH INSPECTION.) • Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Replace the wiper and washer switch, then go to Step 6. (See WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION • Disconnect the BCM connector. • Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection). • Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
4		No	Go to the next step.
5	INSPECT WINDSHIELD WASHER SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND • Wiper and washer switch and BCM connectors are disconnected. • Inspect for continuity between the following terminal (wiring harness-side) and body ground: ― Wiper and washer switch terminal J (Vehicles with wiper and washer switch on right side) ― Wiper and washer switch terminal F (Vehicles with wiper and washer switch on left side) • Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground, then go to the next step.
5		No	Go to the next step.
6	VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED • Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors. • Reconnect the negative battery cable. • Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS. (See CLEARING DTC [BCM].) • Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [BCM].) • Is the DTC B1051:11 present?	Yes	Repeat the inspection from Step 1. • If the malfunction recurs, replace the BCM. (See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) Go to the next step.
6		No	Go to the next step.
