Description

•  Parking brake switch circuit malfunction

Detection Condition

•  Open circuit in parking brake switch circuit with the parking brake lever applied (parking brake switch on).

Possible Causes

•  Parking brake switch connector or terminals malfunction
•  Parking brake switch malfunction
•  BCM connector or terminals malfunction
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between parking brake switch terminal A and BCM terminal 8A
•  BCM malfunction

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION
•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Is the DTC P1536:13 present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.

INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Disconnect the parking brake switch connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
•  Inspect the parking brake switch.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the parking brake switch, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the BCM connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Parking brake switch and BCM connectors are disconnected.
•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Switch the ignition to ON.
•  Measure the voltage at the BCM terminal 8A (wiring harness-side).
•  Can the voltage be measured?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible open circuit, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
6
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Is the DTC P1536:13 present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the BCM.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
7
VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
