• Poor reception due to object obstructing GPS antenna
• Poor connection of vehicle wiring harness (vehicle signal) connector, bad pins.
• Open or short circuit in vehicle wiring harness (vehicle signal)
• GPS antenna malfunction
• Car-navigation unit malfunction

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS OBSTRUCTION SUCH AS BUILDING
• Drive the vehicle in an area with clear visibility (no buildings or trees surrounding).
• Does the icon on the screen move according to the vehicle action?

Yes
|
System is normal (explain to the customer that the cause is weakness of GPS reception due to driving in an area with tunnels or obstructions).
|

No
|
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS OBSTRUCTION SUCH AS AFTER-MARKET ELECTRICAL DEVICE
• Is there an object on the dashboard which is interfering with GPS reception (such as devices installed by customer after installation)?

Yes
|
After explaining to the customer that a device installed by the customer on the dashboard after the installation is interfering with GPS reception, remove the device and verify the malfunction symptom.
If the malfunction is not resolved, go to the next step.

No
|
Go to the next step.

VERIFY GPS SIGNAL RECEPTION STRENGTH
• Verify the GPS signal reception strength on the car-navigation unit screen. (See Identification procedure for GPS signal reception strength.)
• Are three dots indicated for the GPS signal, and are there 4 or more “Available Satellites”?

Yes
|
Replace the car-navigation unit.
|

No
|
Go to the next step.
|

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS POOR CONNECTION OF GPS ANTENNA CONNECTOR
• Remove the GPS antenna.
• Verifies the connection condition of the GPS antenna connector.
• Is the GPS antenna connector connected securely?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|
|
No
|
Connect the GPS antenna connector securely.
|

VERIFY GPS ANTENNA CONNECTOR CONDITION
• Disconnect the GPS antenna connector.
• Inspect the GPS antenna connector and vehicle wiring harness connector for pin disconnection or deformity.
• Are the connectors and pins normal?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|

No
|
If there is any malfunction on the GPS antenna connector side:
• Replace the GPS antenna.
If there is any malfunction on the vehicle wiring harness side:
• Repair or replace the malfunctioning location.

• Remove the car-navigation unit.
• Verify the connection condition of the car-navigation unit connector.

No

If there is any malfunction on the car-navigation unit side:
• Replace the car-navigation unit.
If there is any malfunction on the vehicle wiring harness side:
• Repair or replace the malfunctioning location.

• Inspect the GPS antenna feeder.
• Is the antenna feeder normal?

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION IS RESOLVED
• Does the vehicle position move normally?
|
Yes
|
Replace the GPS antenna.
|

No

Replace the car-navigation unit.

Identification procedure for GPS signal reception strength
1. Press the MAP button of the car-navigation unit to display the map screen.
2. Press the MENU on the map screen of the car-navigation unit to verify the number of dots on the top-right of the screen.
