Description

•  AFS control module CAN communication signal error
Detection condition
•  AFS control module detects CAN communication error continuously for 5 s while ignition is switched ON
Possible cause
•  Steering angle sensor initialization not completed
•  Communication error between AFS control module and PCM (vehicle speed signal)
•  Communication error between AFS control module and BCM (steering angle signal)
•  AFS control module internal malfunction

VERIFY IF STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INITIALIZATION NOT COMPLETED
•  Perform steering angle sensor initialization.
•  Inspect for AFS DTCs.
•  Does the AFS OFF light flash in flashing pattern 1?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 4.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSED BY PCM, BCM MALFUNCTION
•  Perform the PCM and BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Are any DTCs output?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSED BY AFS CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect for AFS DTCs.
•  Does the AFS OFF light flash in flashing pattern 1?
Yes
Replace the AFS control module, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
4
VERIFY OTHER DTC DISPLAYED
•  Verify if other DTCs are displayed.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Perform troubleshooting according to the corresponding DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
