AFS does not operate (light-bending does not illuminate) |
---|---|
DESCRIPTION
• AFS does not operate when the steering wheel angle is 80 degrees or more, vehicle speed is 13km/h {8.1mph} or more and the AFS OFF light does not illuminate (Light-bending not illuminated).
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• Signals for AFS control are not input correctly to AFS control module
• Light-bending does not illuminate according to ON signal from AFS control module
• AFS OFF light does not illuminate
Diagnostic procedure
STEP |
INSPECTION |
ACTION |
---|---|---|---|
1
INSPECT DTCs IN AFS RELATED CONTROL MODULE
• Retrieve the DTCs for the following control module using the M-MDS.
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Perform the applicable DTC inspection.
(See DTC TABLE [BCM].)
(See DTC TABLE [L8, LF, L5].)
(See DTC TABLE [FS5A-EL].)
No
Go to the next step.
2
INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN LIGHT-BENDING MECHANISM OR ELSEWHERE
• Does the light-bending illuminate on both sides simultaneously?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 11.
3
INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN AFS OFF LIGHT OR ELSEWHERE
• Start the engine.
• Turn the headlights on.
• Verify the AFS OFF light illumination condition when the AFS OFF switch is turned on and off.
• Does the AFS OFF light turn illuminate and turn off according to the AFS OFF switch position?
Yes
Go to the Step 6.
No
Go to next step.
4
INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN AFS OFF SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT
• Disconnect the AFS control module connector.
• Verify the continuity between the AFS OFF switch terminal H (L.H.D.)/B (R.H.D.) and ground.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Replace for a short to ground circuit in the wiring harness between AFS OFF switch terminal H (L.H.D.)/B (R.H.D.) and AFS control module terminal P
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT AFS OFF SWITCH
• Inspect the AFS OFF switch.
• Is the AFS OFF switch normal?
Yes
Select the active command “WL+IL” using the M-MDS, turn on the warning light in the instrument cluster, and verify the AFS OFF light illumination condition.
If the AFS OFF light does not illuminate, replace the instrument cluster.
No
Replace the AFS OFF switch.
6
VERIFY HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM OPERATION
• Turn the light switch to headlight low beam position.
• Does the headlight low beam illuminate normally?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect and repair the headlight low beam illumination related part.
7
INSPECT HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
• Turn the light switch to OFF.
• Disconnect the AFS control module connector.
• Remove the headlight low relay form the main fuse box.
• Verify continuity between AFS control module terminal O and headlight low relay terminal A at wiring harness-side connectors.
• Is there any continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace for open circuit.
8
INSPECT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR
• Inspect the steering angle sensor.
• Is the steering angle sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the steering angle sensor.
9
VERIFY VEHICLE STRAIGHT DRIVING STABILITY
• Drive the vehicle and verify the straight-driving stability on a level, straight road.
• Does the vehicle drift left and right frequently?
Yes
Inspect the wheel alignments and adjust if necessary.
(See REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT.)
No
Verify the following PIDs using the M-MDS.
• PCM’s PID: “RPM”
• PCM’s PID: “VSS”
• TCM’s PID: “TR”
If the monitoring values are not within the specification, inspect PID related parts and wiring harnesses.
If the monitoring values are within the specification, replace the AFS control module.
10
INSPECT LIGHT-BENDING MECHANISM
• Inspect the light-bending mechanism on the side suspected to be malfunctioning.
• Is the light-bending normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the light-bending mechanism.
11
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS AND CONNECTORS BETWEEN AFS CONTROL MODULE AND LIGHT-BENDING MECHANISM
• Inspect for an open or short circuit and poor connector connections in the following:
Headlight module (RH)
Headlight module (LH)
• Is an open or short circuit or a poor connection detected?
Yes
Repair or replace malfunctioning part for an open or short circuit.
No
Replace the AFS control module.
