The
knock sensor,
Fig. 7, is a piezo-electric accelerometer. The sensor uses the resonant frequency to mechanically amplify the engine knock frequency (5-6) KHz. This device is used to detect engine detonation. When detonation occurs the electronic control assembly will retard ignition timing to prevent engine knock.
