Octane Rod, Replace

Do not change timing by use of different octane rods without proper authorization, because federal emissions requirements will be affected.
1. Remove distributor cap and rotor as previously described.
2. Locate octane adjustment boss and remove attachment screw, Fig. 3.
3. Slide rod partly away from boss on distributor housing to a point where stator assembly moves freely, then gently lift rod over stator assembly post and remove rod and grommet. Retain grommet for use with new rod.
4. Reverse procedure to install, ensuring that hole in rod engages on stator post, Fig. 4.
