Removal and Installation

Removal

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect electrical connector from TFI module.
3. Disconnect coil wire.
4. Using screwdriver, remove distributor cap and position out of way, leaving spark plug wires attached.
5. Loosen distributor rotor attaching screws and remove rotor.
6. Note position of shaft plate, armature and rotor locating holes.
7. Remove distributor hold down bolt and clamp. The distributor hold down bolt and clamp are located under the distributor bowl between the distributor base and the cylinder block, Fig. 1.
8. Remove distributor.



Installation

1. Rotate distributor manually to ensure that it turns freely and ensure that base O-ring is in place.
2. Position rotor locating holes in same position as when distributor was removed, then install distributor, maintaining same relationship of TFI-IV module to engine as when removed.
3. Install distributor hold down bolt and clamp and tighten so that distributor can barely be turned.
4. Install distributor rotor and tighten attaching screws.
5. Install distributor cap with attached wires and tighten retaining screws, then ensure that all spark plug wires are seated in cap.
6. Reconnect TFI module electrical connector to distributor.
7. Check ignition timing and adjust as necessary.
8. Torque distributor hold down to 5.9-8.5 ft. lbs.
