Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering column shroud.
3. Insert key in ignition switch and turn key to ACC.
4. Using suitable tool, depress key cylinder leaf spring through access hole in lock housing, then gently jiggle key back and forth until lock barrel and key cylinder come free.
5. Remove circlip from lock barrel, being careful not to damage circlip location in lock barrel.
6. Withdraw key approximately .2 inch, then remove key barrel from cylinder.

INSTALLATION

1. Insert key fully into key barrel, then withdraw key approximately .2 inch.
2. Insert key barrel into cylinder.
3. Insert key fully and ensure that key and barrel turn freely.
4. Turn key to ACC position and install retaining circlip, ensuring that open jaws of clip align with keyway register of cylinder.
5. Insert cylinder assembly into housing, ensuring that cylinder is firmly seated in housing so that leaf spring fits into undercut slot in housing. Jiggle key back and forth as necessary to achieve proper alignment.
6. Check operation of lock assembly in all positions.
