Idle Speed Motor Position Sensor: Description and Operation

Idle Switch / Motor Position Sensor Locations:

The Motor Position Sensor (MPS), located on the throttle chamber, is a variable restance type sensor. The sensor is attatched to the idle speed control (ISC) servo so as the ISC is moved, so is the sensor. The ECU sends a reference signal to the sensor (approximately 5vdc) and measures the amount returning through the variable resistor. It uses the difference in voltage to determine the position of the ISC servo.
