Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Testing and Inspection




TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
Because of the flow of air into the intake manifold, the intake air temperature sensor will indicate a temperature different than the temperature of the outside air when the engine is running.




Inspection Using Scan Tool




Sensor Inspection
Disconnect the volume air flow sensor connectors and measure the resistance between terminal (5) and terminal (6).

Resistance versus Temperature:
At 0°C (32°F) Resistance 6.0k Ohms
At 20°C (68°F) Resistance 2.7k Ohms
At 80°C (176°F) Resistance 0.4k Ohms




Measure the resistance while heating the sensor using a hair drier. If resistance does not decrease as heat increases or the resistance remains unchanged, replace the volume air flow sensor assembly.
